We are planning to build a large retaining wall outside our property. We've looked into using steel and cement, drystone, lime mortor v cement etc etc. The earthship concept seems to be a good one. We can recycle what we have, reuse old tyres and stay away from using steel and cement but does it actually work?
Earthships are they worth building and if so how do I go about doing it?

There seems to be many conflicting views on whether or not they are definately environmentally friendly. Mike Reynolds books are good and helpful but Mischa Hewitts & Kevin Telfer's book on "Earthships Build a Zero Carbon Future for Homes" is a waste of time glossy over priced book. Not one book addresses whether or not foundations need to be dug. If anyone knows please let me know.
Thanks
Alison
Unicorn Eco Foundation in West Cork have an earthship project - may be worth contacting them? See http://www.unicornecofoundation.org/
Anyone else have experience of this?
