Advice for WWOOFers
Even if travelling from the North to the south of Ireland?
The insurance is not a travel policy - it covers medical care, accidents, damage to other people's property etc. - read the full information on the OVEuropa site. Suppose you need a hospital visit - you should not necessarily expect your host to be able to transport you, so taxi costs could mount up. If you accidentally damage property or accidentally hurt another person, it would cover claims against you. We really do think insurance is essential - and we don't make any income from it - ALL WWOOFers need it.
Please Wwoofers make sure the area you are going to suits you - check out maps and public transport before you go there.
if you say you are going to a place GO! Also send specific wwoof insurance details with your enquiry.
Question about insurance: I am from the U.S. and I have full coverage health insurance that will cover me in Europe and Ireland if I have an emergency. It won't cover doctors visits for minor issues, but I never go in for small things. Would this be enough or do I need to get something additional?
Thank you!
Andrea
Andrea - in our opinion, ALL WWOOFers need the OVEuropa policy which is designed for them. I am not sure how many more times I need to say it? Look at the policy HERE - especially the section about 'Civil liabilities to third parties'. That means you will be OK if you damage your host, their property or someone else - like accidentally whacking the postman with a spade because you didn't see him/her until too late, or destroying a valuable crop because you dug up the wrong 'weeds', or accidentally ripping the expensive plastic on a poytunnel with a scythe. I know it seems like a remote possibility - and I really hope you won't need to use the policy, but it IS protection for you AND your host (and the postman).
You may think your health policy is all you need - but that's just looking at it from your own perspective. Although the OVEuropa policy is not compulsory, hosts may insist on it - so it could also help you get a place.
Top of the list. WWOOFers - please get insurance!
