Hi French buddy,
If found a flight to go to Ireland (with Ryanair) and I had the same issue as you for the ferries. However, there are Ferries from Cherbourg even in winter... if you live by Cherbourg or if you find a way to go to Cherbourg !!! But taking a plane is much cheaper (even if it's not that "green" !).
Good luck in your adventure !!!
For anyone reading this who is not from a European country, remember that Irish Immigration will expect you to have 'sufficient funds' for your stay, and you will need to be able to show a recent bank statement. Immigration may not take the lower costs of WWOOFing into account and may calculate the amount you need based on a 'regular' tourist's expenses.
In general, Ireland can be quite expensive, particularly if you intend to explore the social life in pubs! It would probably be a good idea to add up all the costs of travel within Ireland (you can see prices for journeys on bus and train websites), plus any hostel stays you may need and perhaps a set amount per week for social life and other expenses.
Insurance is a must - it could save a you lot if you are unlucky enough to have an accident. People from EEA countries should also have a European Health Insurance Card, even if they have a separate insurance policy, to get easy access to minor medical treatment.
Also, be very sure to check the luggage restrictions for air travel - excess baggage can be VERY expensive and low-cost airlines can be strict about weight and size limits. In general it is always better to travel with as little baggage as possible.
Hi!
I have travelled around Ireland for three months with a friend, so that's just the period of time you are planning as well. I experienced that it can be really hard if you haven't got that much money and have to think twice before buying something. I think the things you will spend money on are travelling (we spent approx.15€ for a bus trip, sometimes more, sometimes less; tip: book online, you'll get 10% off; trains are often expensive but check out the 10€ specials) or hostels(10-20€ depending where and with how many people you share a room) and food(quite expensive here) if you don't find a WWOOF host.
So if I had to tell you a specific amout, I'd say at least 1000€, but of course this depends on what you want to buy and if you need to stay in hostels a lot (we nearly just travelled a whole month).
But yeah, just see how it goes...
Good luck!
Hi!
I don't really know, but I have the same question since i'm still in France trying to save to go to Ireland.
I just think you don't need a lot if you can plan the different place where you'll stay at leat for the firts month. The problem for your budget can be to stay without host for one or more week and have to find a hostel (camping are not often open in winter)...
How are you going to ireland? I would like to avoid taking plane but i have not find any other way (no more ferries in winter, and it was expensive!)
