Its also our first year keeping bees so hopefully we will have some yummy honey this summer. I also do alot of baking so help around the house from time to time would be appreciated. The Hollies Centre for Practical Sustainabilty The Hollies is a centre for training in Practical Sustainability on about 30 acres near Castletown-Kenneigh, Enniskeane, in West Cork. We are a group of 4 households whose aim is to live and demonstrate sustainability on a very practical level. Since 1999 The Hollies has been developing examples of various natural building techniques and educational gardens and woodlands as well as running courses and working together with schools and community groups.
This year we would love some help between February and November. Work would consist mainly of helping with natural building projects; in our gardens, clearing land and tree maintenance. We also run a 1 acre no-till market-garden, work involves sowing, planting, soil cultivation and harvesting.
We particular welcome people with a strong interest in natural building and organic gardening. Musicians welcome!
We are situated 2 miles from the nearest village, Enniskeane which has a direct bus link to Cork City and Bantry. We have bicycles which you can use for exploring, there is also a small pond for swimming. 20 minutes by car to Clonakilty and nearest beach. |

Laurel Cottage, Inniscarra Lake Laural Cottage is located on the banks of Cork's idyllic Lakelands at Inniscara which stretch for in excess of 9 Km of navigable rivers. A quaint Country Home on eight rolling acres extending along the sylvan shore of the Dripsey river. Ideal location for walking or cycling over unspoilt countryside. We keep horses, dogs and cats so it helps to be an animal lover! We need help with gardening (planting, weeding, removing ivy) and general repair and maintenance inside and outside the house,so construction skills would be an asset. All will have a very enjoyable time if willing to get stuck into the work. There is lots to do for relaxation such as walking, cycling, kayaking, sailing and fishing on the lakes. We are also located on the main Cork - Kerry bus route with the historic towns of Blarney and Killarney en route. |

Peter and Amanda's place Amanda is a teacher and Peter is an artist/designer. We live on a sheltered 2 acre site where we have vegetables, fruit, herbs, trees and garden areas for our own use. We have been developing our land using sustainable methods since 2002. There is a polytunnel, raised bed areas, ponds and gardens. WWOOFers have helped us since 2006 and we are still in touch with many of them. Tasks are varied - mostly experiencing the ongoing battle to tame the weeds and keep the soil fertile. You will learn a little of what has to be done to change difficult land into something approaching self sufficiency. Help with cooking is welcome, but optional, and we have now experienced many international dishes! This is a beautiful area near to the sea and spectacular walks around the Sheep's Head peninsular. We offer comfortable rooms in our house living as a member of the family, sharing whatever needs to be done. In the summer (June - September) this is a lively place with a friendly pub just up the road and there are often other WWOOFers nearby. At other times things are quieter.
Major tasks for 2010 are to rebuild and extend raised beds, make steps up a slope and continue to clear overgrown areas. |

Milbeg Arts Milbeg is on 5 acres of south facing land which comprises of one acre of vegetable garden and 1.5 of woodland adjoining a stretch of the Coomhola river. The river is good for swimming in - but only in the summer really! So there is a lot of maintenance for the trees as well as gardening: I use crop rotation, bio-dynamic and permaculture methods and a raised bed system. The house is a renovated 250 yr old farmhouse and there is still much work to do, especially stone work on the out buildings and creating chalet living accommodation for WWOOFers, who at the moment live in caravans away from the house. There are 3 dogs and 9 cats (no mice or rats!!!) and much good vegetarian food. There are many plans and ideas here, one of which is to create a residential Art Centre. For the last 10 years I have managed an arts organisation - 'K2ARTS' specialising in environmental education through creativity. I am also an artist and involved in other local arts activities. There is a lively music scene locally and also at home sometimes! |
