Geamhar Glas We have a smallholding of roughly five acres with the same again rented. We keep rare breed free range pigs, horses, goats chickens and ducks. We also plant our own vegetables. We began our smallholding four years ago and are expanding every year trying to add more rare breed animals to our wee farm. Our smallholding is located in the Gaoth Dobhair Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) area with the Derryveagh mountains on one side of us and the atlantic ocean on the other, the area is very beautiful and there are many opportunities to hear Irish traditional music with regular music sessions.
We usually expect our volunteers to help us for about five hours a day, you will be provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner, evenings and weekends are free We do not cater for vegetarians or people with specific dietary needs as we raise our own animals for the table. While it might sound obvious, if you have any back/health problems or don't like cold/wet/mucky conditions then think again about coming to the North West, it is the most beautiful place on earth (we're biased) but it can be harsh sometimes, |

Mulligan's We are two artists living on twenty acres of mountain pasture and bogland at the foot of Errigal. After a long period of neglect due to other interests, we are gradually returning to a more intensive interest in self sufficiency and sustainability.
We have half of our land planted in maturing trees and there is ongoing tree planting and harvesting for fuel and construction work. We want to bring back our old vegetable and fruit garden to full cultivation from it's present state of wilderness and neglect . Also we have plans to return to keeping more livestock such as goats and large poultry. At present we keep chickens for eggs and also some fancy birds for their looks .
Other plans include building a tree house , making the field boundaries stock proof again with fencing , hedging and dry stone walling and generally making preparations for keeping more livestock next year.. |

Malin View Farm (Sorry we are fully booked for 2011)We, eamonn, toni and erin (our 4 year old) have a few acres in north Donegal between Malin and Culdaff,on a hill with beautiful views overlooking the bay in Malin. Over the years we have been working on our veg garden, potato plot, fruit garden and are developing an ochard. We have chickens, ducks, geese and somtimes pigs. The tasks are varied, feeding the animals, cleaning out pens, digging, weeding, planting, chopping firewood, fencing, collecting seaweed to name but a few.
Tasks for this summer are to build a new chicken run, develop a new fruit and flower, prepare ground for new hedges.
Accommodation is in a self contained apartment behind the main house. This has a living/bedroom, loft bedroom and shower room. Meals, we share together in main house, food is mostly home cooked and I bake all our own breads.
Beaches are two miles away. Inishowen is beautiful place to explore, for those who wish to hike or cycle.
We are easy going and as long as you are willing to work hard then previous farm experience is not necessary. |

Hamiltons Organic Farm We farm 150 acres one mile from the village off St.Johnston and eight miles from the historic city of Derry/Londonderry. Our farm has pigs, cattle, and vegetables and our aim is to sell all our produce through a farm shop. Accommodation is a loft conversion with internet access, but if you prefere to stay in the house with three noisy children thats ok. Tasks would be feeding the pigs, weeding, log splitting if your strong enough and general chores around the farm. Come and enjoy! |
