St Tola Organic Goat Farm St Tola is an organic goat farm that produces its own milk and make delicious organic cheese from that milk. One company but two distinct operations. The farm milks 220 goats at peak operating 7 days a week with two milkings per day. Milking starts at 7.30am followed by feeding. The day runs until 3 or 4 pm depending on the season and the evening milking is from 6 until 8pm with 20 min feeding after. We do the min on the weekend at about 5 hours per day and have 5 fulltime employees but need a little extra help during the busy season. Helpers on the farm will learn to milk a herd of goats on their own and much about animal welfare and preserving the health of goats. On the cheese side time is divided: cleaning 30% Packing 30% and cheese making 30% with the other 10% made up of planning and order taking etc. The day starts at 8 or 9 AM and finishes at 4 or 5PM. Breakfast is together at 10.30 AM to 11AM, which is the main meal of the day and we exchange information from farm to cheese house, and a light lunch is at 1.30 PM. Good and healthily eating is important as the work is hard and burns fuel which needs to be replenished. |

Octopus's Garden We are on an adventure!
We are beginners. We like to dream. We dreamed of a happy place to live and sometimes share with nice people and have been working on this dream for the last 2 years. This dream has become reality and here we are now living a more simply, sustainable and natural way of life with all it's beauties like freedom, personal expression and creativity and it's struggles like isolation, hard work, and the unpredictable irish weather.
We are looking for people who are looking to help. Who can be independent and are sensitive to the fact that you are coming to our home. If you think getting stuck into the mud, digging, sowing, planting, weeding, chopping wood is great fun and you want to do these jobs and you can put up more than less happily with feelin the rain on your nose at potentially any second, great! get in touch!!
Project for this year will be the garden, making it into an organic oasis that can feed many hungry mouths. It is very peaceful and beautiful out here. You will be spending a good amount of your time with yourself, please consider, if you would enjoy some self time. |

Cottage Gardens Cottage Gardens is a beautiful and natural smallholding on the very picturesque and scenic foothills of Mount Callan. Its our way of life. We have a small garden centre on site with native shrubs and homegrown herbs and veg plants. We keep a pony, donkeys, goat’s hens and ducks. We grow all of our own vegetables and herbs in an organic way. Terry is a self taught artist and has a little studio beside the cottage with paintings for sale. Cottage Gardens are only suited to people who are able to use their own initiative and can help with cooking, using our homegrown vegetables and are willing to assist with the wash and clean up. We operate as a team inside and outside and need you to be part of that team. Helpers must be confident with and have a genuine love for all animals. Our vision is to create a happy and stress free environment for living, to appreciate the wonderful things nature has to offer and to enjoy each day to the full, and you would be most welcome to share this. Your room is in our cottage and can sleep up to two people. |
