County: Dublin
Lambay island, Co. Dublin

Family run farm in idyllic setting on a 300 h island with Special Area of conservation status and a Special Protection Area for nesting sea birds and breeding Atlantic seals. Lambay is host to some of the largest and most varied sea bird colonies in Europe. It is an island rich in history with interesting archaeological features. The whole island is privately owned and farmed within the Rural Environmental Farm Scheme : mainly permanent grazing for a herd of Galloway cross cows and some sheep. There is also a herd of fallow deer, some naturalised wallabies and many rabbits. There is an historic house and castle, coastguard cottages, farmyard and chapel all enlarged and enhanced by the famous architect Edwin Lutyens over 100 years ago by my grandparents, with extensive gardens and grounds. Limited agri-tourism in the summer months. volunteers are used mostly to help control noxious weeds especially ragwort( Jacobaea senecio) in the hay meadows and tree plantations and other problem areas. Help is also needed in the gardens and grounds which include some vegetable and fruit growing. Other permanent staff live on the island. Electricity is generated by a wind Turbine.

County: Kildare
Veda Farm

Organic smallholding of 7 acres in Co.Kildare (1 hr from Dublin) and 2 acres in Co.Clare in the West of Ireland. The Kildare farm is situated on the edge of the great Bof of Allen, 3 miles from a small lake which feeds an old complex canal system with joins the Shannon River. It is a quiet, traditional, picturesque area with small pubs same of which have traditional music. My plan is to be as self sufficient as possible. I have two traditional work horses, some sheep and a veg garden. My form is near Donadea National Park, its a good cylcling and walking area. I am into yoga, meditation, music, cycling and walking and general out door activities and very interested in folk and trad music etc. The main tasks to help with here will be light farm work, gardening, feeding horses etc. Slán.

We are presently not excepting inquires for wwoffers until Dec 10. Burtown house is a 1720's listed Georgian villa, in county kildare. The extensive gardens set over 10 acres, surrounded by mature parkland and a working farm of 180 acres, also have a walled kitchen that supplies much of the food needs throughout the year. This has been in production for a very long time. The garden is organic and has been extended and developed by Lesly Fennell and Wendy Walsh. Son of Lesley, James and his wife Jo take an active part in the gardens at Burtown House. There are numerous groups that visit during the summer months. There are various expansions presently taking place, such as clearing and planting a woodland garden, cleaning and maintaining a large stream, building slip gates etc. During 2010 we will be doing a lot of work in the walled garden, relaying the paths, renovating green houses, as well as the usual germinating, sowing and maintenance of organic vegetables and fruit trees. There is also a large orchard. Woofers would be expected to help with anything from clearing, digging, planting, harvesting, painting, wood chopping and general maintenance.

We are a family run organic vegetable and fruit farm managed by Liam Ryan and Yuki Kobayashi. We started working the 13.5 acre farm in August 2003 and achieved certified organic status in August 2006. We grow a wide range of vegetable crops as well as strawberries, raspberries and apple trees. We sell the vast majority of our produce direct; on Fridays from our own farm, on Saturdays at Carlow Farmers' Market and on Sundays at Athy Farmers' Market. We also supply local restaurants and buy and sell with other organic growers in our area. We are very interested in a Macrobiotic way of life and Yuki cooks predominantly in a macrobiotic way and practices acupuncture. We are also interested in Bio-Dynamic Farming and how this goes together with a macrobiotic approach to growing and living. There is a wide range of work for volunteers to immerse themselves in and we are busy all year round. Accommodation is provided in a self-contained mobile home, with own cooking facilities etc., which gives WWOOFers the opportunity to cook on their own sometimes if they wish as well as having shared meals. Minimum stay is one month.

Hello, we are Natacha and Tim and we have two small children and have finally gotten organised with our garden. Our aim is to provide as much to eat for ourselves as we can. We are learning all the time and hope to share that with potential WWOOFers. We have a tunnel, a separate vegetable plot and are planning another plot for crop rotation and planning to extend our small fruit plot. We would like help with planting, weeding, preparing the soil, planning the crop layouts, storing and processing the end results. We have a small (tiny) wooded area which we maintain to let it grow to its best so that needs help. Thank you for looking!

100 Ha farm with 30 cows, 100 ewes, 4 sows and about 16 Ha of crops which we use to feed the animals. We have a small vegetable garden which is expanding every year. We want to get hens and are currently planning on opening a farm shop. It is a busy farm but the work is varied from feeding and caring for animals, building, machinery maintenance, painting, etc. We are also a demonstration farm so we sometimes have farm walks on the farm. Volunteers stay with us in the house and basically live with us. Situated on Dublin-Cork road.
